Perfect Plate
A better way to pack leftovers!
The Problem:
The history of disposable plates goes back to 1867 when German bookbinder Hermann Henschel invented the paper plate to package food more hygienically. Since then, numerous modifications have reinvigorated the disposable plate, but in 2024, Michael, an idea person, would introduce us to a better way, which would completely reinvent the disposable plate…
Whether paper or plastic, many of us feel the guilt of using a disposable dish once and tossing it in the trash moments later. As consumers, we have been compromising durability for eco-friendliness and vice versa for years, ultimately resulting in a negative consumer experience.
To-go containers are the same; you either get stuck with leftovers in a styrofoam container that no one should heat in the microwave or a paper container that ends up leaking before you can get it home.
For these reasons and many more, Michael, an idea person tired of dealing with the negative customer experience, decided to reinvent the disposable plate. However, this time, Michael was determined to create a better way to pack leftovers, reheat, and serve food!
Davison's Better Way:
Michael’s idea wasn’t to simplify; instead, he wanted to combine plates and to-go containers and tackle the problems that both products have individually. So, Michael turned to the internet, searching for a product already on the market to address consumer concerns. After a deep dive, Michael concluded that no such product existed.
However, after reading many customer reviews, he learned that he was not alone; consumers wanted a practical solution that provided a good customer experience, and right then, Michael knew he was the person to accept this inventing challenge.
The first thing Michael did was create a list of all the issues he and other consumers faced. He knew the ideal disposable plate would need to be recyclable, microwave-safe, durable, and be able to transform into a to-go container.
With his must-have product feature list in hand but no actual knowledge of where to go from here, Michael once again turned to the internet for help. Feeling overwhelmed by all the information he read online, Michael decided to enlist a product development team to help him design a disposable dish. That team was the Davison team!
After speaking to a project manager, Michael secured his idea using Davison’s Idea Security Agreement. With a 100% confidentiality guarantee, Michael knew he was heading in the right direction. Michael then scheduled his free idea consultation with a seasoned member of the Davison team.
Michael and the Davison team discussed the various details of the product idea. This meeting is also known as a brainstorming meeting. Together, they tackled Michael’s must-have list of issues that his new plate had to solve.
In the end, Michael and the Davison team designed the “Perfect Plate,” which was not made from the typical “recyclable” materials but, instead, it would be made from a 100% plant-based product, making it compostable, microwave-safe, and durable.
The team also designed the Perfect Plate as a unique 3-in-1 solution. It can be used as one large single plate that measures just over 10.25 inches in diameter or as two separate plates. The Perfect Plate can also be folded into a to-go container using the built-in locking tabs.
Today, you can purchase the Perfect Plate from Walmart, Target, Amazon, Jokari, and many other major retail and online stores.
